A house for the Children of Carmo da Mata Carmo da Mata is a small town in Minas Gerais. Around 120 miles from the city Belo Horizonte and 270 miles from the metropolitan of Brazil São Paulo. Today Carmo da Mata has about 10.000 inhabitants, most of them elder people, because the young ones are leaving to the big cities. For the fews who are staying rests work of low saleries in facturies or in farming. Those workers need to send their children after school to relatives or friends. Goal of the Project "A house for the Children of Carmo da Mata" is to construct a dayhome to take care of children of unemployed parents or people of low encome. With this project we want to realize, that children stay away from drugs, crime and similar activities. The dayhome of Arco Latino contains the following topics: Music, sports, religion and computers. What happened until now: Two sites of land were offered. The bigger one refers to an area of 45.000 square feet but it is situated at the brim of the city. This land was donated by Dr. Lafaete. The smaller one is centrally located and belongs to the parish of Carmo da Mata. This land is ideal for a fast solution to the problem. At the moment the children are temporarily accomodated in buildings which are in terrible conditions. Arco Latino will try to raise the funds to build the home. There in Carmo da Mata a group of people ,the church, the Rotary Club and volantaries of the department of construction of the city, will build and afterwards mantain the dayhome.
